though i made an effort to rally support for scott brown, deep down i thought it would go to martha coakley in a tight race. i just wasnt sure that the statewide support was there for a republican in the bluest of blue states that hasnt voted in a republican senator since 1972.
my hope is that this actually leads to some bipartisan action in washington. the behind closed door deals to ram through legislation is not what the american people need or want. president obama and the congressional leadership should take this as a serious sign that americans want their legislators to work together, not to battle in their mini turf wars.
congrats to scott brown. now get to work!

Paul - I gotta say I'm shocked as well. I am no Martha Coakley fan, but I just hope this doesn't mean the end of the single best opportunity this country has had to have universal health care. Although, I don't like the idea of such a one sided bill, it seems to me that the right has been against reform from the beginning and now they are not even engaging in debate, but rather employing political stall tactics that waste time and money (see anything that comes out of Judd Greg's mouth).
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you're right - I hope this prompts bipartisan action, I just have my doubts. And it would be rather tragic if the new senator sitting in Ted Kennedy's seat was the one responsible for preventing health coverage for all americans.
